The New York Times published a January 4th, 2008 article on the federal Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act quoting fellow Bankruptcy Law Network member and president Jay Fleischman. Jay expressed his thoughts that insolvent debtors already were protected from tax liability for forgiven debt and the act offered little relief to those struggling with increasing adjustable rate mortgage payments. The Bankruptcy Law Network of attorneys communicate ideas and discuss legal topics of interest among each other and publish several free blogs on bankruptcy and consumer law.

The FDCPA was enacted 30 years ago. Andy Miofsky met with various representatives from the debt collection and credit transaction processing industry, credit counselors and consumer interest groups. Andy attended the workshop as a representative of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA). He will present a report on his findings to the NACBA Board at their upcoming conference in Las Vegas later this month.
